Cabbage and Italian Sausage Casserole

Ingredients

  • 6

    Dalisa Italian Sausage (hot or mild)

  • 1

    large Savoy cabbage

  • 4 cups

    of marinara sauce (homemade or store-bought)

  • 1 cup

    of parmesan

  • 1 1/2 cups

    of grated mozzarella cheese

  • 1 tbsp

    of olive oil

Preparation

  1. In a large pot of salted water, blanch the cabbage in small batches for about 1 minute. Cool the cabbage in a bowl of ice water.
  2. In a skillet, heat the oil over medium heat and cook the sausage meat for about 5 minutes. Break up the flesh with a fork.
  3. Add the marinara sauce to the cooked sausage meat and remove from the heat.
  4. In a large baking dish, spread 1/5 of the sauce. Sprinkle with 1/5 of the parmesan. Cover with 1/4 of the blanched cabbage leaves.
  5. Repeat the previous step to obtain 4 layers of cabbage, ending with the sauce and parmesan.
  6. Cover and bake in an oven preheated to 350° F for 45 minutes.
  7. Remove the lid, garnish with mozzarella cheese and return to the oven to melt.
